HRM 112 / HRM 422 – Introduction to Employee and Labor Relations

Creating positive employee relations is critical to the success for all businesses, regardless of size or industry, union or non-union. The challenge for the human resource practitioner is to understand and apply the appropriate solution that is specific to an organization or situation.

This course will look at ways to create a work environment of inclusion and one that engages employees. It will present a positive approach to employee and labor relations. This will be achieved through discussion of examples of employee and labor relations issues in the workplace and alternatives or how to best handle them. The course will cover collective bargaining process and include the analysis of a typical union contract, including the grievance and arbitration processes. Focus will be placed on management and unions working collaboratively to achieve common goals.
