Medical Billing and Reimbursement

Medical Billing and Reimbursement is an introduction to the basics of medical insurance billing and current payment methodologies in inpatient, outpatient, and surgical settings. This course has a heavy focus on Medicare billing since third-party payer rules can vary per payer and/or per state. This course focuses on compliance with regulatory requirements, proper documentation requirements, and common Medicare billing practices.
Audience
Healthcare professionals who are currently in supervisory roles or seeking to enter a supervisor position and/or individuals who seek to earn Continuing Medical Education credits.
Continuing Medical Education
This course provides 30 AAPA Category 1 Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits for PAs and NPs.
Overview & Assignments
This course consists of 8 weeks of guided learning, each comprising multimedia, interactive modules, and curated readings. It is expected that you will spend approximately 6-7 hours per week working through these materials and assignments.

Instructor Lisa Anne Blakeley, AHIT, COC, CPC, CRC, CPC-I, is a supervisor in the Billing Compliance Department at Boston Medical Center. She educates new providers on medical record documentation, coding, and Medicare/Medicaid billing regulations. Previously, she served as a professional audit manager with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts where she managed 12 senior auditors. Blakeley has worked in numerous areas educating providers in evaluation and management, ICD-10-CM and risk adjustment. She has taught billing and coding and electronic medical record courses at the Salter School and Coastal Career Academy, both located in Fall River, Massachusetts. She serves as president of the New Bedford Chapter of the American Academy of Professional Coders.
